Girls hoops tops RL

Hudson's last victory came at Menomonie Dec. 19. Since then they dropped a nonconference game to D.C. Everest and two games at the Marshfield Holiday Tournament over the break. Last Saturday's win over the Warriors boosted their record to 5-7 overall, 3-2 in BRC play.

"Yes, it was a big win for us on Saturday night," head coach Jess Carney said. "I feel like we had really good energy and intensity."

The Raiders held the Warriors to just 16 first half-points while limiting Rice Lake's leading scorer, University of Minnesota-Duluth recruit Brooke Olson, to just 11 points total, nearly half her average this season.

"She is such a great player and we knew that she is their catalyst, so it was a focus of ours to try and make it tough for her to get going," Carney said.

Hudson meanwhile spread the ball around and got 16 points from Shayla Wallin, 13 from Sophia Jonas and seven each from Izzy Hanson, Ty Huber and Kaiya Sundeen in the win.

"The girls executed our game plan very well," Carney noted.

Jonas hit three of Hudson's six three-pointers while Wallin and Grace Uchytil pulled down seven rebounds apiece. Wallin also blocked two shots while Huber recorded four assists and four steals.

After playing five of their last seven games away from home, the Raiders will hit the road again for a pair of games this week, at St. Paul Highland Park Tuesday, Jan. 9, and at Eau Claire Memorial (2-9, 1-4) Friday, Jan. 12.

"We are hoping to continue playing well and playing together and for each other," Carney said.
